Baby Carriages In Time And Forms

11th August 2009 by Babies No Comments

An infant or a child can be carried with baby carrier which is as on-the-body carrier. The slings, backpack carrier and soft front or hip carrier are different forms of baby carrier. The older children can be carried in mei tais, frame backpack carriers, slings and hip carriers, many other types of soft carriers.

The idea of the cradleboard originated from the Native American baby carrier that mothers carried with them for their babies while traveling as well as working. Back straps are attached to the head or shoulder on which are mounted the cradle. Travois or a saddle is used to hang the cradle when traveling. Cushioning effect in the cradleboard is provided by moss, shredded bark or lichens. Flexible twigs such as willow and hazel is used to weave the cradle. Flat pieces of wood too can be used instead. The cradle has a flat surface. The child though is secured tightly to the cradleboard can freely move its head.

Ever since the Victorian era, perambulators or prams have been used in the United Kingdom. Carrycot is the modern adaptation and has a detachable body. Nowadays prams are rarely used. They are bigger and also costlier than the modern baby carrier which is sold in the market. The more comfortable and cheaper strollers are preferred.

Stroller is also called buggy. It is used to carry kids up to three years. There are strollers that can carry two kids side by side or one behind the other. Triple strollers too are available with increase in triplets. A stroller looks like a chair or seat on wheels. The baby is held by a harness in the stroller to ensure that the baby does not fall off. There are many models of strollers with different features. These include the Stoke Xplory stroller, Kolcraft Contours Stroller , Inglesina Trip Stroller and Chicco C4 Trevi Stroller.

Make sure that the stroller does not wobble or tip. There should not be any sharp edges that can harm the baby. The screws should be covered with plastic cover so that the baby does not fiddle with them and pull them off.
