Terrible Two’s or Just New Parenting Skills
9th August 2009 by Babies No CommentsImagine how easy your day could be with the skills to manage your toddler easily. The end of toddler tantrums, bribery, screaming and crying. If you are currently facing toddler tantrums, it may seem only a dream. Really thought, it does not have to be. It is amazing that when it comes to parenting, or using techniques to get the right toddler behavior, we often think it should be in built or come naturally. But more often it is not something pre programmed into parents.
Just as we learn other skills, parenting is a skill. With instruction, practice and repetition, it is something we can learn, improve and create a large skill base. You can even modify theses skills and use them with different age groups or as your child grows. Parenting skills can be adapted and changed over time to suit different children and their ages. Who wants to admit, “I am not a very good parent, I cant handle my toddler.Saying this is not a common thing to do as a parent.
This I feel is very sad, because useful parenting skills can be learned; it is not necessarily a natural or inbuilt process for many people. Toddler tantrums are just part of normal development and a deeper discovery of ones self and needs. It is in fact a healthy part of healthy development but how it is managed can make all the difference. By learning and applying different techniques you can have your toddler behave the way you want. These skills can be kept as a foundation to add to as you gain further skills and your child grows.
Invest in your parenting skill development and in turn assist your child grow and develop. Remember the baby tantrums are not a burden but a celebration of flourishing independence, mental development and most importantly an opportunity for parents to learn and develop new skills which they can keep and improve on through life.
