Foods for 8 -10 Month Baby

20th January 2009 by Babies No Comments

This is a stage where some mothers wean their babies from the breast or bottle after the consultation of doctor. But still the baby needs to drink 24 ounces of breast milk or iron fortified formula every day. When a mother started weaning from the breast ,she adds more healthy food stuffs to maintain the balanced diet .Baby food fact about the introduction of new foods is that intro should happen one at a time (at least three or fours days in between) to ensure the baby is not allergic to any new foods introduced.

At this stage, baby starts to pick up the objects with forefinger and thumb and it starts to put everything in its mouth and to move jaws in chewing motion. So a mother can start giving finger foods like soft cheese, crackers, cooked vegetable strips or slices, ready to eat cereal round or squares etc. These kinds of food will break up easily and dissolve in mouth quickly. Small amount of Protein which is found in boneless fish, pureed meat, egg etc; well cooled and mashed beans can also be introduced. Mother can even give her baby non- citrus juices like apple juices or pear juices.

Care should be taken while giving finger foods to the baby. One should not give the baby hard, small piece of foods which the baby can choke on such as nuts, seeds, pieces of raw vegetables, popcorn ,grapes, candy  etc. A mother can continue these foods for next two months. By the end of the 10 month, the little one can eat what its mother cooks for the rest of the family.
