Posted by Babies - 20/01/09 at 11:01 pmAt this stage, there will be a sign of readiness of the additional solid foods in a baby as the baby has more teeth, baby can swallow more food easily, baby will no longer push the food out with the tongue etc. Until the baby is one year old, breast milk or iron –fortified formula may be the apt milk for the baby. Baby will have a varied appetite during this stage. Hence forcing a baby to eat more will work out in reverse order. Baby will not have grinding tooth with a broad crown at this stage. So Mother should ensure the foods are mashed between the gums. Now the baby can have half mashed or chopped form of food. They can take foods like diary products or milk products, Breads and cereals, fruits, vegetables, meat and other protein foods, juices etc. Juices should be made fresh at home. Mother should introduce juices which are rich in vitamin C .She can make juices out of orange or grapes ,berries etc. when she introduces citrus fruits, she has to ensure the possible reactions to the acidity. Fruit drinks and sweetened beverages like sodas should be avoided. Between 10 -12 months old, baby must be introduced with white fleshed fish. Baby food fact about Honey is that it should not be given to babies under one year old as babies will have small resistance to clostridium botulinum spores which will generate deadly toxins. The proteins in almonds are like proteins in the breast milk. It is not necessary that all babies in this stage will be taking the same foods or same amount.
