Buying Baby Nursery Bedding with Confidence: Necessary Facts to Keep in Mind

You can easily design your whole nursery around your crib set. You’ve planned out the perfect nursery, from the furniture set to the wall color - but hold on a second! It’s very important to choose the right crib bedding, so make sure you have considered these things before you buy:

- Choose cotton flannels or knits (or wovens with a high thread count), but make sure they’re not blends - go for 100% cotton. This is to ensure that the bedding is both soft and breathable.

- Babies have a lot of “accidents”, so buy bedding that is machine washable (another great reason to choose cotton).

- To prevent the risk of suffocation, make sure that the crib sheets fits the mattress snugly. There are, however, elastic straps designed to improve the fit of your crib sheets, so you can use those if you have any concerns.

- Crib bedding sets are cute and very convenient, but they may be unnecessary. The American Academy of pediatrics recommends against unnecessary bedding that is included in most bedding sets (like crib bumpers or quilts). For this reason, it may make a lot more sense to buy separate pieces. If you’re worried about coordinating, don’t be. By purchasing separates, you actually give yourself more freedom to be creative with the nursery.

- Now you should think about the decor. Coordinate your bedding with the style and colors of the room and its furniture.

Buying bedding within your budget can be a concern, but take into account that you may use it longer than you think. If you are using a convertible crib then you can use the same sheets from birth through the end of the toddler years. If you’re planning on a big family (or even one more child), consider gender neutral crib bedding like the Vintage 4 piece crib set, that can be reused over and over with each new baby. You might opt to buy cheaper bedding, though, if you are pretty sure you won’t be having more children. In any case, keep extra sets of sheets on hand, in case of emergency!
