Before You Get Baby Crib Bedding: Setting Up Your Nursery

30th July 2009 by Babies No Comments

The crib will be the focal point of your nursery, but it is the bedding you choose that will really make it stand out. If you’re looking for a special kind of crib, try shopping online. Not everyone will agree on which bedding set is the best. But when you find the right one, be prepared. Bedding is expensive and even a “cheap” set can cost over a hundred dollars. So before you start your search, try to have an idea of the theme and price range you’re looking for.

When deciding what style of bedding to buy, think carefully about the future of your family - are you planning to have more kids? For example, a baby girl will probably mean that you want baby girl bedding, covered with frills and pretty pinks, or maybe something trendier (but still very feminine), like Pixie Stix baby bedding. But you don’t know what you’ll have next. Girl’s bedding won’t look right in a boy’s room. With the high cost of nursery bedding, check out some gender neutral themes that with work for future babies, too. When you’ve set a budget, keep it and resist the temptation to buy a more expensive bedding set. Your baby is going to treat her bedding the same no matter how much it costs, so why exactly are you spending that extra money?

Department stores, or even specialty baby stores, are limited by the amount of floor space they have, and can almost never offer the selection that an online store can. Red-brick stores carry a handful of brands at the most, while ecommerce stores will usually have 20 or more different brands. Even if you’re shopping at a big-box discounter, you may find that they can’t match the prices you’ll find online.

The offline store does have one big advantage over the online one, though - you can thoroughly examine and feel the bedding before you buy it. So when an online retailer tells you that a bedding set is cuddly, you have no way to verify it. While photographs can show many details of the bedding, they simply can’t replace holding it in your hands. The other major problem with shopping online is *too much* selection. The easiest solution is to choose a bedding style and a budget before you go online.
